Will the skull be sheeplike in shape? Without canines, and a need to thoroughly chew everything it eats, I would expect a skull form similar to that os sheep and cows. It looks a little like that is what you were going for too, but I thought I should check.

Perhaps its like an Ankleidon, however you spell it, with the armoured back being a full shell instead of the plating...
...and the extra pair of legs.

I was trying for a skull shape similar to rhinos, or possibnly the impressions we have of what triceratops should have looked like, but my drawing just can't do it justice. It's definately herbivorous, but with a more complete teeth set than complete browsers have.
And the ankylodon referanece is fairly close, except, as you say, for the shell.

during a recent attempt at laying out ideas for the look of the Copperleaf in photoshop, i decided to make a better attempt at the Adamantodon. It sucked. Then I began again last night. This one doesn't suck. But still needs more work (mainly the creation of its shell)

Sounds good. I look forward to seeing it when it's done

shell creation is the hardest part as it will be entrely free-hand, so that combined with the fact that for tuesday I need a completed business card proposal and a sketchbook full of DVD interface ideas and then for friday I have a flash animation to be done which hasn't even been started yet.
sigh.

It does - and for that it's alright. As a dragon, however, I find it highly disappointing....oh well...

thought i may as well show you the WIPs of the first rubbish sketch, and the second better piece, even though it aint had the shell done (apart from the rough blue lines showing where armourplate/shell will be) Adamantodon first concept sketch: WIP 3rd Adamantodon concept: Yes. I do know that that is still a carnovours head.

I like the concept, but I'm not sure the second is big enough... Obviously I'll step down in the face of contradiction from Storm, but I'd pictured these things only marginally smaller than adult elephants - shorter, but of a similar mass and size. The shape of it, minus rider, is very good though, especially with the shell coming up and over the head and part of the face. ...just read one of your comments above - it sounds like you're using that image as a base because the lizards, rather than the scale, is good. If this is the case, then ignore the first couple of paragraphs. Aside from which, you are still doing more work on the project than I am, so I'm in no place to complain.

While, Like thenephew, I had imagined that Adamantodons would at adulthood, be roughly comparable in size to an adult elephant, since these things have massive lifespans, I don't see any reason why adolescent Adamantodons mightn't remain at that kind of size for half a century or so, leading to plenty of opportunity for PDF Adamantodon riders as in the second pic. The shell placement is also very good.
At this point, it looks like it's going in A very good direction. I'm eagerly awaiting more.
