I know that a number of us still check in incase of developements, but in the past two months there has basically been zero advances, I realise that the main reason for this is the likes of exams and such.
So here's the nub, whats the plan? what state is the project in?

I suggest that, at some point in the near future, we:
a) Summarize, in one document, all of which that's been decided so far. b) We then make an announcement on the 'clave telling people that we are effectively starting up again, working with that document as a basis. c) We see how it goes over the summer.

sounds good, a kind of "Here's the basics of the planet and a bit about its society, now we need to expand it."

Yeah - that's kind of what I was aiming for when I started summarising the pirates thread, but that got very little further discussion started, so I revised instead. This sound like a plan though.

I had an idea how to keep things moving. I've already run it past Doug, and he says they're a few alterations he needs, but here's the basic idea.
It strikes me that the main reason it slowed up was that we had a load of great stuff, almost enough stuff, in a way, and no real system of categorising it. It came to me that what we really need is to be able to split this thing into maybe three or four main articles, and one smaller teaser. It would of course be nice to be able to include a little of everything in each article, but that strikes me as basically a little confusing, and the articles will have no direction. So perhaps if each addressed a different category, EG: Environment (geography, biology, sunflares etc), Society (people, traders, hierarchy, government), Hivebergs (could also include info on St Martius Cove), Military and Threats (PDF, pirates, indigenous tribes, freed slave colonies etc). Now those are just a rough idea of what it might be, but if we were to take something like that, then we could start sorting the material into those categories, and Doug could start editing out the worst bits so we don't have each article too large, and we could be picking out a few bits for a teaser, possibly to make Issue 3, or even two at the speed things are currently going.
That way we know what's needed exactly, we've got a focussed objective, and we're actually making progress towards getting articles in DM.

Incidentally, is anyone having trouble with this forum - I can't see the normal reply button, or those which allow you to modify, qoute etc. At the moment I'm just quickreplying.

If we can knock off a quick list of which threads go in which article, summarising should proceed pretty quickly and easily - then it's a matter of getting an article posted for proof reading.
While I like the four sub-sections you've defined and I think they will be the best way to split the content up, some parts will fit equally well into either. I would think the controllers of the mercenary forces would feature as new-money nobles in society, but also as commanders in military.
One of the most important factors here will be how long each article will be. The Hivebergs will fill several pages on their own, as will the flora and fauna. Since this is probably the case, where does the Cove go? I would be tempted to include a brief part in the Environment, then a detailed analysis in the style of the 'bergs under Hivebergs.
I guess we'll just need to have a little debate to nail down a final division.
Seeing how long it took to fill issue one of Dark Magenta, I assume that; A] Standards are very high, and B] the DM staff are forced by circumstance to work quite slowly. By this, I think we should catch issue two with the first article, but that it should not be a target - it's a bonus if we do get it, but the priority is a carefully planned and well written series of pieces.
Oh, and I'm seeing all the buttons at the moment, I'm afraid.

Wherever there's an ambiguity, we can either include info in both articles, each on whatever is pertinent (IE: the actual mercenary forces go into military, while the structure of noblemen and those who deal in mercenaries goes into society), or in certain circumstances we might gjust prefer to choose.
Actually, the only thing really holding us up at DM is the technical boys getting the layout done. The material was ready almost a month ago, and we're already near to completing the material for two. I'd aim the first for Issue 3, as Robey already has loads of specialist articles lined up for 2.
I'm also seeing all the buttons again, luckily. Not sure what happened, but hopefully it won't glitch out on me again.
MM.

I would have thought that with the idea of four articles on: Environment, Society, Hivebergs and Military - that would allow for the actually Founding history of the planet and brief outline of its current situation as the perfect basis of the opening teaser article.
Perhaps we should re-organise the actual layout of the forum to:
General General Board
The Project History Environment Society Hivebergs Military + Threats
This way everything is more clearly defined (but not totally) as we are creating it, rather than sorting it all out later.
