Well, a bit of explanation. Essentially, for the taster article thing we're all working on bits for at the moment, I decided it might be nice to do a few little bits looking into aspects of the planet's politics, just to give readers an insight into it...anway, I've decided to do three taster pieces at the moment, one (the first) being a sample of the populistic agitation being spread illicitly around the slums and poor quarters of St. Martius' Cove, another being a look of some sort into a Senate meeting (probably in the forms of minutes or somesuch) and the third probably looking into something alot less formal and more...devious...(you'll see )
EDIT: Few changes upon recommendations - bloody removed, and have made more clear that this is an extremist's pov
Anyway without further ado, the first taster:
Extract from the treasonous newspaper, “The Voice of the People,” edited by the renowned populist agitator Desoule Carmen, all of whose works are officially banned and suppressed by the Planetary Board for Moral Truth. "The Voice of the People," is the political newsheet of the terrorist organisation which calls itself the, "Guardians of the Common Man," a group with dangerously extreme populist ideas.
“Do you not see now what is happening, my people? The senators, the merchants, the fat noble slugs, they say that they are our friends. They come to us, they stand in line and they tell us they are our kind benefactors who care for nothing but our well-being, all the time their gross rolls of lard wobbling pathetically as they gabber away to us These men, fur lined robes billowing out over fat bellies, golden jewellery glistening by their bright electric light, everything all neat and prim, they say to us blessed poor that they want only to help us, the blessed workers of St. Martius.
Help us?
Oh yes, I can see that. They’re only acting in our interests, after all. Their constant grinding down of the worker, sending him spiralling back down into bleak poverty time after time after time, that is all for his own good. Their oppression of the common man, woman and even child, that is all for their own good. Their theft of our jobs, of our homes, of our very livelihoods in the name of their beloved project, the new Gate of Martius, that is all for our own good.
Of course it’s not.
Do they really believe that we are that stupid?
Do they really believe that the common man of St. Martius’ Cove is that stupid?
Do they really believe that?
Whatever they believe, we are not. The people of St. Martius’ Cove, the common people, the good, honest workers of the Cove are not stupid, for one of us at least has seen through their black perjury! We have seen their lies, we have seen though their lies and we will fight their lies! We know that St, Martius’ Gate will not create work for us, not when it is all done and finished. Oh, of course there are jobs now, while it is in construction. But what after that? What will happen to our jobs in the docks, in the space port, in the Cove? What will happen to them, with a new spaceport, full of cheap immigrants dragged in from the back of nowhere, from the ocean goers, from the penal colonies?
What will happen to our jobs, our livelihoods, our families?
They will die.
What will happen to their profits?
They will soar.
People of St. Martius’ Cove, the truth becomes clear to me now. More than ever before, the fat slugs who rule over us are determined to crush us down with their black iron soles, squeezing all happiness, freedom or energy that we might have in the name of their sacred profit. Heed not their promises of aid, of welfare, or extra jobs across the vapour seas, for they are false. They mean only to trick us, as they have done before for so many years. They mean for us to be blind.
They mean for us to be dead.
We must fight them.”
Any thoughts?
