Hi all! I am new to this interesting forum and just starting to grasp how it all works...sort of. The people of the planet have to have some way of blowing off some steam, so what kind of recreation and entertainment do they have? Do they watch TV (probably some kind of religious programming considering the mindset of the 41st millennium)? Do they go to the club (every one loves the club), and if so what kind of music do they listen to? Do they play sports?
Just wondering.

currently the only form of entertainment that has been covered/put forth is the Honour Merchants semi-gladitorial set-up - there is a thread on it already if you want to go take a look (its in the Continent sub-board).
Also, welcome to the project.

You have to remember that Imperial planets in general (although as always, there are many exceptions with such a huge number of planets) do not have commericalism or popular entertainment because they have no democracy. Imperial doctrine is far nearer extreme communism than capitalism, and in general such things as entertainment on public vox networks and televised entertainment are controlled and used as propaganda channels by the planetary governments.

Think in terms of population numbers, though. You have a huge sprawling population crammed into habs and desperately destitute. Unless you have a government which is A) supremely confident in the population's fear of the security forces/military/secret police, so much so that there seems no possibility of any real uprising against the regime, B) so utterly ingorant of the population's feelings of repression and injustice that they will not notice the rebellion until it breaks down their doors, or C) secretly promoting a rebellion to throw off Terran rule, ... there's going to be some sort of public entertainment. An 'opiate of the masses' sort of thing. Whether it's vidcasts of heavily filtered propogandist programing (all approved by the state offices, of course ), circus-like performances and gladiatorial games (like ancient Rome, or the Carnivora in "Ravenor"), or actual physical opiates distributed to the masses (minister: "The people are unhappy!" 2nd minister: "Then give 'em happy pills..."), even a totalitarian Administratum-run government is going to have some way of keeping the population calm, docile and contented.

Actually, there is fiction and holodrama's, the equivelant of books and tv. In addition; regicide (like chess), pit-fghting (often broadcast), the narcotic lho are popular

Well; there are fiction books, and holodrama's mentioned in th Ciaphas cain books. but the books mentioned portray the inquisitors as powerful authoritarian figures, and the characters in the holodramas were incrediblely capable soldiers, so I suppose that the private fiction is still pro-imperial.
And in regards to imperial society; I agree with the totaliarian regime, it isn't communist. There are private businesses and people in positions of power and luxury.
